Arunachalee students secure 1st & 3rd positions in national Bible quiz contest

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: Two students of Newman School, Neoton, Miao, namely Chera Sime and Celia Mossang have secured first and 3rd positions amongst the participants from North East in senior and junior level respectively in the National Bible Quiz competition conducted by Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) under the Catholic Bishop's Conference of India (CBCI).

Over 1000 students from 550 schools from all over India participated in the quiz competition, the results of which were declared on December 5.

Chera hails from Kibito in Anjaw district and Cecelia Mossang is from Neotan village, Miao, Changlang.

 

Nabam Yami  and Suchismita Das to represent P/Pare in state level science competition

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: Nabam Yami, Class-IX of VKV, Balijan and Suchismita Das, Class-XI of Govt Hr Sec School Doimukh secured the first and second position in the District Level Science Exhibition of Papum Pare held at Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Doimukh yesterday. Both Yami and Sushmita will represent Papum Pare in the state level Science Congress scheduled on December 21 and 22.

Yami and Sushmita were also chosen winner in sub-themes-- “National Resource & Their Conservation” and “Industry” respectively. Four other sub-themes winners are, Biswajit Karmakar, (Area of Parallelogram), Tasso Ronya (Transport & Communication), Millo Pupi,  (Information & Education Technology) and Oyi Taloh (Community Health & Environment).

Twelve students from different schools of Papum Pare participated in the event.

The programme was chaired by Tapip Ramsing, Principal Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Doimukh.

 

Block Level Cong Seva Dal training camp

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: A week-long block level Congress Seva Dal training camp got underway at Tezu in Lohit district on Thursday. Parliamentary Secretary, Public Health Engineering, Karikho Kri had inaugurated the training camp in presence of Taki Taba Chief Organizer, State Congress Seva Dal cum Chairman, APKVIB. More than hundreds trainees are attending the  camp being organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Seva Dal. The training will be concluded on Sunday.

 

BDO’s death mourned

ITANAGAR, Dec 15:  All Nyapin Sangram Phassang Youth Welfare Association has mourned the death of Tadar Tari, Block Development Officer Kimin, who died on Thursday at Naharlagun based hospital. Born in 1970 at Lante Lote Village in Kurung Kumey district, Tari joined as BDO in 1991.  He was also an active social worker. His death is an irreparable loss to the family and the society as a whole, the association said.

 

In-service teachers training at Sangram

ITANAGAR, Dec 15:  A block level in-service teachers training was held at BRCC building Sangram recently. At least 60 teachers attended the training. The absentee teachers were asked to ensure their participation in similar training programme in future.

 

AASSATA denies manhandling charges

ITANAGAR, Dec 15:  All Arunachal Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers’ Association (AASSATA) today denied the report of manhandling of regular teacher, claiming that charges leveled against them was untrue and unfounded. Further in response to All Papum Pare District Students Union’s appeal to call off the ongoing indefinite  pen-down strike, AASSATA said that pen down strike was jointly decided by Arunachal Teachers Association and AASSATA after the  failure of the  high power committee  of the state Govt to submit its report on the  demand for  one go regularization of  remaining 2003 batch SSA teachers, the association said.

 

Org to go with bandh

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: Expressing its deep regrets to the Rajiv Gandhi Students Union and  every section of society for causing inconvenience, All Arunachal Pradesh Youth Organization (AAPYO)   said that it  will go ahead with its proposed 36 hours  capital bandh. It accused the  state Govt “for provoking the sensitive issue.”

 

Saaya seeks  people’s cooperation

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: MLA cum parliamentary secretary, Agriculture, Likha Saaya  has appealed to the people of Mai village to maintain unity and cooperate with the  Govt  for speedy development of the  area. The MLA also urged the public not to play too much politics in the development process. He was addressing the  inaugural function of the upgraded Govt Middle School and  Community Hall, Mai on December 13 last.

While responding to the two point memorandum,  Saaya  also  fulfilled the long felt demand for construction of  general ground and also assured black topping of road from Yachuli to Mai covering 9 KM within his tenure. He further informed the people of Mai Village that drinking water project for five villages under Mai Anchal  segment is under process. Saaya also distributed blanket to the  senior citizens of the village.

In his address Dr. Joram Begi, Director Higher & Technical Education, assured to put his efforts for bringing fund for construction of teachers quarters. Expressing concern over the slow pace of development in education sector in the area, Begi urged the villagers to give priority on education.

Tezu Govt HS school celebrates annual day

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: Parliamentary Secretary PHED & WS Karikho Kri inaugurated the 60th Annual School Day of Government Higher Secondary School Tezu at its Playground today. Students of Dong, Lai, Ring, and Tailung Houses displayed cultural programmes and March Past on the day.

The inaugural function was witnessed by huge gathering comprising of administrative officers, HoDs, public leaders and gaon burahs. Karikho Kri addressing the teachers and students emphasized on academic proficiency and discipline. Nobin wins top honour; Yadi women’s champion

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: P Nobin Jomoh was declared National Champion while Rei Yadi was adjudged Women’s Champion as Arunachal bagged highest medal in the 7th NSKF National Karate Do Championship which concluded at Naharlagun today.

Nobin bagged two Gold medals in a tough field, one each in Senior Men’s Individual Kata and Kumite. He faced tough challenge from Takiang Bagang in the semifinal of Senior Men’s Individual Kumite before he beat Digamber Shinde of Maharashtra in the final.

He, along with Takiang Bagang and Samuel Dolo, bagged a Silver medal in Senior Men’s Team Kata event too. The Gold and Bronze medals in this event went to Maharashtra and Assam.

Women Champion Yadi also bagged two Gold medals, one each in Senior Women’s Individual Kumite and Senior Women’s Team Kata. She beat K Usharani Devi of Manipur in the final of Senior Women’s Individual Kumite event.

Other two Gold medal winners in Senior Women’s Team Kata were Rajnita Rotom and Sumpi Chege. The Silver medal in this event went to Assam’s Serlin Teronpi, Klirni Katharpi and Binita Sharma.

K Usharani Devi of Manipur won the Gold in Senior Women’s Individual Kata and Rajnita Rotom and Sumpi Chege bagged the Silver and Bronze.

Arunachal topped the medal table with15 gold, 12 silver and 20 bronze. Manipur with 4 gold and 3 silver medals and Maharashtra with 3 gold 1 silver medals finished second and third respectively.

Sports Authority of Arunachal (SAA) Chiarman Tapuk Taku attended the concluding day function as chief guest and distributed prizes to the winners along with former World Champion Shihan Tamon Pemba and others invited dignitaries.

Addressing the players from different parts of the country, the Chairman encouraged them to pursue games and sports sincerely since sports is an integral part of education. He reiterated the State Government’s commitment towards development of sports sector in the state. He advised them to refrain from using alcohol and drugs which can ruin their career and lives.

Former World Champion and Chief Instructor of International NSKF, Japan Shihan Tamon Pemba conducted the Championship with help of referees, judges and officials from Arunachal Pradesh and other States. Pemba, who arrived here from Japan at the invitation of the organizing committee, was all praise for the resounding success of the championship and the enthusiasm shown by the players and the spectators during the three-day event. The former World Champion also conducted training for the players, referees, judges and coaches of the country on the latest rules and regulations of Karate on December 13.

The organizing committee chairman and Arunachal Karate Do Association president Likha Tara thanked Pemba for attending the championship and conducting it smoothly. He said that the former World Champion’s presence has definitely provided a golden opportunity to the players to learn from him.

The chiefs, coaches and technical directors of different styles of Karate in the state, especially Deben Sharma, L Marik, Dr. Marli Ete, Tai Hipik, Charu Tatung, Yarda Niki, Nanu Sangha and some senior players took active part in successful conduct of the championship.

The concluding day function was also attended by Sports and Youth Affairs Joint Secretary M Kamki and Sports and Youth Affairs Asst. Director Ramesh Lingi, among others.

SLSA secures overall runners up spot in NE Judo Championship

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: The Judokas of Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA) secured the overall runners up spot in the North Eastern Judo Championship held at Aizawl, Mizoram from December 11 to 14.

The team won 3 Gold, 5 Silver and 13 Bronze medals.

The 25-member team comprising both boys and girls was led by Puspo Kanth Sharma as Manager and Yum Pangkhu as Coach.

The medal winners will be felicitated as per the Sports Policy of the State Government, according to Department of Sports and Youth Affairs release.

Ghatowar assures more fund for Arunachal

NAMSAI, Dec 15: Union Minister for DoNER Pawan Singh Ghatowar while attending the second day of Poi Pee Mau festival at Namsai today said Arunachal Pradesh would get more funds from DoNER ministry during his tenure as he not only shares special emotional attachment with the Arunachal Pradesh but understands numerous bottlenecks the land-locked State faces.

Prioritizing construction of road for proper communication in Arunachal Pradesh, he said sufficient funds are being placed by his ministry to take the state at par with other developed region of the country.     

Lauding the tangible development spearheaded by former chief minister Dorjee Khandu and his successor Nabam Tuki, he said per capita income of Arunachal Pradesh has grown manifold while hopeful of seeing Arunachal Pradesh turning as economic power house with support from DoNER and other ministries.   

Expecting high hope with the completion of India-Myanmar Friendship Road, India-Myanmar-Thailand Road and Trans-Arunachal Highway, Ghatowar said it would supplement cross border tourism and bolster massive economic activity.

Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Ninong Ering, attending the festival, encouraged cultural exchanges between the people of the region. He also informed about various work he had undertaken as a Parliamentarian for Namsai and its vicinity.

Art and Culture Minister of Assam, Pranati Phukan while meriting cultural exchanges between the people of Assam and Arunachal said that it can erase any kind of misgiving between them.

Parliamentary Secretary, Assam, Bolen Saikia lauded Namsai for harbouring people of different origins and culture harmoniously. He emphasized on agriculture to change the face of regional economy.

Royal Bengal Tiger cubs rescued from Angrim Valley

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: Two numbers of Royal Bengal Tigers were rescued by the staff of Anini Social Forestry Division with the help of Wildlife Trust of India at a place called Angrim Valley under Dibang Valley District of Arunachal Pradesh. Informing this in a release Aduk Paron, divisional forest officer, Anini Social Forestry Division Cum Ex-Officio Wildlife Warden stated that for the last few days, cases of presence of Tigers in the village and attacking the domesticated animals like Mithuns, Pigs, Chickens etc were being reported.

On receiving the information, the Anini Social Forestry Division team alongwith the staff of Wildlife Trust of India started search operation to locate the Tigers. After camping for a week in the village, three Tiger cubs were found inside a dry water tank constructed in the periphery of the Angrim Valley village. Most probably, the Tigers might have fallen inside the tank while chasing a deer as, carcass of deer was also found inside the dry water tank. Unfortunately, one of the Tiger cub succumbed to the injuries before the rescue team could arrive. Both the alive ones has been handed over to the Divisional Forest Officer, Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary Division, Roing and kept at Mini Zoo, Roing. The entire operation was personally supervised by Ipra Mekola, Member, State Wildlife Advisory Board, Arunachal Pradesh for the last one week.

 

 

Tuki announces development package for Kangku circle

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today announced Rs 1 crore each from Special Plan Allocation (SPA) for infrastructure development of the Circle Office and Police Station respectively at Kangku in West Siang district to a thunderous applause of the people, including Gaon Buras.

On his maiden visit to the circle administrative centre bordering Dhemaji district of Assam, Tuki assured all out assistance in infrastructure development and welfare of the people of the area.

The Circle Office and staff quarters constructed on a hillock could not be connected with water supply since last 16 years and therefore remained almost abandoned. People, through a public memorandum, had pleaded the Chief Minister to sanction funds for shifting of the offices to the foothills.

On the other hand, a police station had been recently sanctioned in the area by the state government. Though land for establishment of the same has been earmarked by the administration construction works are yet to start.

Kangku in Likabali Sub-Division is a foothill region with 26 notified villages along the Arunachal-Assam boundary. Despite its nearness to Assam the region is yet to be connected by a road from Likabali interlinking all the villages within the territory of Arunachal Pradesh.

Addressing a huge gathering, Tuki informed that the road linking Likabali, Kangku and Durpai has been proposed under PMGSY. He said the Government has already submitted the project costing Rs 47 crore to the concerned ministry and earnestly pursuing for its sanction.

Tuki, probably the first chief minister to visit the remote circle headquarter, also took notice of the threat of erosion by Kangku River and Nare stream posing on the Government Secondary School. Several teachers’ quarters and school compound have already fallen victims of erosion.

Moving around the school premises, he expressed surprise over the dilapidated condition of the school building. Saddened that the future generation of the state were studying in such a dilapidated building, he assured a grant of Rs 10 lakhs immediately for renovation works. He called upon the people to own responsibility of government property as their own and maintain the same.

“People will come and people will go but these assets should be maintained forever,” he said.

To the plea for flood protection works, he assured Rs 20 lakhs in the first phase so that the works to save the school compound could be started immediately. He also assured to discuss and consider the trifurcation of the 9-Likabali-Kangku anchal samity as requested by panchayat leaders of the area.

Tuki called upon the people to maintain brotherly relations with neighboring Assam and maintain the age-old cordial relations.

“Assam-Arunachal…we are brothers. In fact the whole of North East is one. We have to develop as one unit through helping each other, maintaining peace and harmony,” he said in chaste Assamese to the convenience of a large section of people gathered from the other side of the boundary.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Parliamentary Secretaries Gojen Gadi and Padi Richo and State Youth Congress Vice President Nyamar Karbak.

Earlier, on their landing at the make-shift helipad in the school compound, the Chief Minister’s entourage was given a traditional reception by hundreds of women dancing Ponung. Also present were local legislator and Deputy Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly Jomde Kena, SP West Siang, ADC Basar, HoDs and delegates from nearby Assam.

 

 

Govt, market committees oppose bandh

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: Taking serious note of the 36 hours capital bandh call proposed by All Arunachal Pradesh Youth Organization (AAPYO) from Dec 17 on the airport issue, the state Govt today directed all the commissioners/secretaries to ensure that all the offices within their  jurisdiction  remain open as usual with 100 per cent attendance on the bandh days.  Govt staff if found absent without prior permission during bandh  days would face strict disciplinary action, an official release said. All the state transport buses will ply as usual and all Govt school and other establishment like  hospitable and health centre,   anganwadi centre etc shall remain fully function, the release said.

Earlier yesterday,  office bearers of the Bazaar Welfare Committees, transport federation/ association and petrol depot association  in a meeting conveyed by Capital DC unanimously decided that  all the business establishments and Petrol Pumps in Capital Complex would remain open and vehicles keep ply on the road as usual during the proposed 36 hours capital bandh on Dec 17.   The members present in the meeting were also informed about the security measures taken by the District Administration and Police authority, according to an official release. City SP Surendra Kumar, ADC Bokar Basar and  other Govt officers were present in the meeting. The office bearers of all Market Welfare Associations of capital complex have agreed to cooperate the District Administration and requested for sufficient security to be provided during the bandh, the release said.

 Meanwhile, opposing the All Arunachal Pradesh Youth Organization’s 36 hours capital bandh  from Dec 17, Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) and Naharlagun Bazar Welfare Committee (NBWC) today asked its business community and shopkeepers to keep open  their shops during the bandh hours since the bandh has been declared illegal by the district administration.  

The bandh calls badly affect the normal life, particularly the daily wage earner, business community and emergency patients,   both IMWA  and  NBWC said in separate  press releases.

Meanwhile, the IMWA warned the shopkeepers  of  stern action if  they fail to comply with  the  order of the market body. It also requested the authority to deploy adequate security forces to thwart any untoward incident during bandh.

Describing the proposed 36 hours capital bandh call as uncalled for and it is without having valid issues on state interest,  the Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC)  today urged people of Capital Complex to co-operate with the administration to defy the bandh.  “Few misguided individuals cannot dictate the popularly mandated Government on any of the State  issues’, the APYC said adding since the construction of airport is a State’s ambitious project, it cannot be dictated.

Pointing out the heavy financial loss of both business community and state Govt during bandh, the APYC appeals the agitating organization to refrain from ‘unnecessary interruption’ and pressure tactics on Govt policies. APYC also urged the Airport Authority of India to expedite the construction of ambitious Airport project at the earliest.

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: Reiterating the need to come up with a separate Sainik School for the state, the Alumni Association of Sainik Schools, Arunachal Chapter (AASSAC) made a fervent appeal to the state Govt. to take steps to establish the school at the earliest in the interest of children of Arunachal Pradesh preferring to take up armed forces as their career.  

Highlighting various hardships faced by parents including entailing substantial expenses to educate their children in other Sainik Schools in the North East, AASSAC appealed the state govt. to take up the matter in right earnest and set up the school preferably in a cold and hilly area like Ziro, West Kameng or Tawang for better training of the cadets and ensuring their success in entry to National Defence Academy.

Drawing out an anomaly in the admission prospectus issued by Sainik School Punglaw, Nagaland where the seats are reserved for cadets of Arunachal Pradesh, AASSAC pointed out that there was a discrepancy in the age factor for cadets from domicile of Arunachal Pradesh compared to other cadets from the northeast. This factor was depriving many aspiring cadets to try their luck in the entrance examination of the school. During the day-long deliberation at a city based hotel here today, members discussed in threadbare several issues pertaining to Sainik School and its related social welfare activities, setting up of a Sainik Welfare Board and welfare measures for ex-servicemen, framing of by-laws for the association among others.
